The Safe Haven Circle:  A Community Approach to Ending Family Violence

Last year at this time more than 100 local individuals and businesses chose to speak out against domestic violence by becoming charter members of the Safe Haven Circle at Raphael House of Portland. Their support made a critical difference in the lives of thousands of families experiencing violence. It also helped Raphael House to take some big steps forward as an organization, expanding programs and improving efficiency and success at helping survivors move forward into a safe, self-sufficient future.

In 2007:

  • We began renovation work on a 5,000 square foot unfinished attic within the shelter building, soon to open as a new comprehensive advocacy center! This center will allow us to continue serving families after they’ve moved out of the shelter, dramatically expanding our capacity to help them navigate complex systems and build safe lives.
  • We increased the number of safe nights spent in the shelter to a total of 10,015.
  • We provided 10% of the total bed space for survivors of family violence in all of Oregon.

Please consider joining the Safe Haven Circle today. Your gift or pledge of $1,000 or more between March 1 and June 30, 2008 allows us to participate in a matching gift program with the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund. There is no better time to speak out against family violence.  All new membership pledges will be matched 100%!

I now look at my life differently and I have become a more positive person

and a kinder, gentler, more attentive and understanding mother because of [Raphael House].
